About Us

About Robinson Yacht Service. The owner is in every repair.

Robinson Yacht Service is a small niche shop by design. When you call, you reach James Robinson, and James is part of every step of your repair, from the first inspection to the final sea trial. Nothing gets handed off and nothing is a mystery. The person who quotes your job is the same person turning the wrench.

That comes with a Yankee work ethic: we get it done, no matter what. A part that's hard to find, a fault that's hard to track down, a deadline before a long passage. We don't make excuses. We find a way.

Raised in the Boat Yard

James grew up in boat yards. His father was an electrical engineer and a fisherman, and his grandfather was a stockbroker who spent his free time fixing yachts. James was piloting the family Hatteras before he turned ten, and he has been working on boats ever since.

He trained with some of the most respected names in the industry, including Hinckley, Ellis Boat Co., and Dometic, and built his career inside the yards that set the standard.

At Hinckley, he served as Manager of Procurement.

At Ellis Boat Company, as Purchasing Manager, he helped build custom lobster yachts for clients including Billy Joel.

At Maine Yacht Center, as Purchasing, Safety, and VIP Service Manager, he built the yard's OSHA and EPA safety programs and provided VIP service to clients including Mr. Rockefeller.

At Zimmerman Marine, as Yard Manager of the Charleston location, he turned a six-figure loss into a profit within six months.

Built the Right Way

James founded Robinson Yacht Service in Mount Pleasant in February 2024 with a $5,000 investment. He repaid it in 30 days, and the company has had no debt since. Today it does more than $30,000 a month in work, and it's still run the same way, with the owner on every job.

From the Ravenel Bridge to the Whole Coast

Our home port is Mount Pleasant, in the shadow of the Ravenel Bridge. From there we serve yacht owners from Myrtle Beach to Miami, at the slip, on the mooring, or in the yard.

If your yacht needs repair, refit, maintenance, a custom build, or a solar and lithium upgrade, call James directly.
